I don’t know about your kids but when my kids get hungry (and what I really mean to say is hangry) they don't take the time to grab something healthy. To keep them from eating pure junk, I try to keep some healthier snacks in the house for them to choose from. Here are some of their favorites:
- Salami
- Pepperoni
- Cheese slices/sticks
- Crackers
- Pirate’s Booty
- Grapes, raspberries, oranges, apples, pineapple - whatever fruit is in season
- Fresh veggies with ranch dip
- Yogurt
- Nuts - almonds, pistachios
- Trail mix
- Peanut butter toast
- Celery with peanut butter
- Turkey/ham slices
- Hummus
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Popcorn
Sometimes I’ll even put together a platter of 4 or 5 of the above things. Especially if they are having friends over. I guarantee they will eat it if it is out and ready and not try to go to the pantry for a cookie! This also saves the pricier pre-packaged items for lunches and snacks on the road!
