how to make your savings account work for you.
At Canopy Credit Union, we love savings accounts because they help grow more than your savings.
(but we love that too)
It grows a healthy money mindset where your financial dreams flourish.
High-dividend savings accounts grow your money over time just by having funds sit in your account. Just like pressing fast forward on a movie–you accelerate your savings. You can take the stress out of saving by simplifying and speeding up the journey toward reaching your financial goals.
Savings accounts are a great tool because you can easily follow the “set it and forget it” method. Keeping your savings separate from the money you need to spend adds an extra layer of protection around your financial dreams. When you see your savings increase as they sit in your account, your motivation to stick to your goals also multiplies.
what’s a healthy “money mindset?”
This is a great question. A Money Mindset is a frame of thinking that defines how you respond to and think about money or finances. This can mean spending your money as soon as it hits your account or excessive saving, even when it negatively impacts your well-being. These responses come from scarcity or abundance mindsets we develop about money during our childhoods–sometimes as early as five years old. As adults, these beliefs tend to stick with us and impact our behavior even if we aren’t aware of them.
The great news is that no matter your age, your money mindset is flexible and financial wellness is a skill you can develop with the right tools and guidance over time.
- financial coaching
Canopy Credit Union’s certified financial coaches often recommend a savings account as a great step on your financial journey because it establishes a clear path for setting and achieving goals. Healthy money management habits include organizing your funds by “jobs,” effectively decluttering your financial strategy. You can think of different accounts, such as savings or checking, as folders in your financial organization system.
Whether you want to set yourself up for a financially well future or to make meaningful progress toward a specific goal, a Canopy 7Saver account is a safe place to start building real financial stability–one step at a time.

frequently asked questions
Why can’t I just keep my savings in my checking account?
You can absolutely keep your savings in your checking account, but it isn’t always the best place if your goal is to grow your savings overall.
When you pool all your funds in the same place, there’s one less barrier between you and spending your savings. This can make it easier to fall off track with your budget. We’re all about keeping things simple and easy. Sometimes setting savings aside in its own account holds you more accountable (haha) for less effort.
What financial goals work best for a Canopy 7Saver account?
A Canopy 7Saver Account is great for a variety of financial goals. Some of our favorites include:

I spend too much to benefit from a Canopy 7Saver account.
Even small savings can add up to a big difference, especially with 7% growth on your investment. Sometimes taking the first step, even if it’s putting $25-$50 in your savings account every month, is enough to create a positive change in your financial situation. You may even start spending less when you realize how great it feels to see the money in your account grow.
Is a Canopy 7Saver account good for kids?
A Canopy 7Saver account is great for anyone with a savings goal, but it’s also an awesome account for kids. A 7Saver is a great way to jumpstart a college fund or start saving for your first car.
